About Us

What is RESN?

RESN is a free service dedicated to providing high quality VCE tutoring for regional Victorians. We are a team of passionate VCE and IB graduates who aim to improve the VCE experience of regional and rural students across Victoria.

After finishing school, starting university and meeting people from different parts of Victoria, we quickly realised that the tutoring opportunities available to us in Melbourne are very different to those available elsewhere in Victoria. Whilst many VCE students in Melbourne can hire a whole support team of expensive tutors, many regional and rural students are left to churn away at those tough questions alone. We thought it highly unfair that this reality continues to shape the VCE experience of many across the state and it was this dissatisfaction that motivated us to create RESN.

Originally founded by some of Victoria’s top students, RESN has now grown to encompass a diverse and experienced team of over 70 excellent tutors. We offer a unique online tutoring network designed for the 21st century, an approach that is accessible for all regional and rural students across Victoria. RESN is innovative, exciting and new – we hope you agree.

Why RESN?

RESN was designed to benefit students, our volunteer tutors, regional schools and parents.

For students, RESN aims to provide:

  1. Explanations to tricky questions and concepts within 24 hours.
  2. Reviewing of essays by a second set of highly skilled eyes within 24 hours.
  3. Opportunity for students to ask questions about exam preparation and university life.
  4. Leadership opportunities within the RESN family even while still at school.
  5. Tutoring and administrative positions with the RESN team after completing school.

For our volunteer tutors, RESN also has numerous benefits:

  1. The opportunity to support students in regional and rural parts of Victoria with their VCE-related concerns.
  2. Being part of an extensive network of fellow high achieving and approachable people at RESN.
  3. Being a mentor to younger students who are still undertaking their VCE.
  4. Opportunities to further develop interpersonal, organisational and academic skills.
  5. Playing an integral role in an innovative and exciting startup operation, and watching RESN grow into a network that can make a difference nationwide.

Regional schools can benefit from the way in which RESN can help cultivate a culture of learning among students, which not only increases academic performance but also makes it easier for teachers to teach.

We also aim to lighten the load for parents who can rest easy, knowing that their children are receiving valuable VCE support without expensive tutoring costs or endless hours driving to local libraries to meet up with tutors.

How does RESN work?

The RESN system is entirely online, making it both accessible and easy to use. We provide support in a wide variety of subjects, including English, Maths, the Sciences, as well as Humanities courses such as Legal Studies and Physical Education.

Students follow 3 easy steps to use RESN:

  1. Visit our Portal at app.resntutoring.com.au.
  2. Create an account.
  3. Login to submit a question or essay.

We get back to students with a worked solution or feedback on their essay within 24 hours!

Students are welcome to submit multiple questions and can follow-up on a tutor's answer.

At RESN, we take the safety of our students and tutors very seriously. For more information, please visit this page.

What is the future of RESN?

In terms of our future aspirations, we have devised a three-stage plan for the three years from 2018-2020.

Stage 1) Establish a high quality online tutoring service with capacity to support students all over Victoria in a wide range of subjects. This will include support for all students from Year 7 to 12.

Stage 2) Engage more closely with schools across Victoria by offering services such as mentoring programs and revision lectures.

Stage 3) Expand the RESN family beyond Victoria, tapping into our interstate friends’ networks in order to create an Australia wide online tutoring service ready to support regional Year 11 & 12 students nationally.

Where are we now?

In 2018 we ran a pilot program with Seymour Secondary College, Wodonga Senior Secondary College and Mallacoota P-12 College. Approximately 40 students used our service over the 6 month period and we received positive reviews about the quality of the help that we provided.

After our successful pilot program, we are now looking to expand across the State and make schools and students more aware of our exciting, free service. We would love to extend to your school the opportunity for your students to take part in our program so that they may receive free, volunteer tutoring.

How can I help?

We would really appreciate any help with the following aspects of our RESN initiative:

1. Informing students of our service through a brief assembly announcement.
RESN would benefit greatly from your endorsement in an assembly or form group environment. Such an announcement could be based on this short brief. It could entail a brief outline of RESN’s function, how RESN works and the possible benefits of RESN - we would recommend using our RESN Overview. Any questions that arise from the student body can be forwarded onto the RESN team.

2. Recommending several (2-3) RESN Student Ambassadors to assist us in promoting RESN among the student body.
The purpose of the RESN Student Ambassador position is to connect the RESN initiative with the student body. This role involves promoting RESN throughout the school’s student body and wider community, ensuring RESN becomes and remains a popular destination for tutoring in your school, and acting as a liaison between your school’s student body and the RESN team. Additionally, RESN Student Ambassadors have the opportunity to join the RESN team after they have finished school in either an administrative or tutoring capacity. An ideal RESN student ambassador is a student who is well-respected among their peers, diligent in all their work and, perhaps most importantly, understanding of RESN’s aims and aspirations.

3. Connecting us with any other schools that may be interested in their students benefiting from the RESN experience.
RESN is dedicated to reaching as many regional and rural students as possible. By establishing a strong reputation for effective and efficient solutions to VCE questions, we hope that you would be willing to share our name with other school colleagues and friends in country Victoria. We would greatly appreciate it if you would pass on our details to interested schools or colleagues to enable us to build partnerships with as many schools as possible!
